When installing BART Scheduler, you must install both bart.prc (the
program itself) and bartdata.pdb (the schedule database). This database
contains train schedules that are current as of 11/3/99. If the train
schedules should change, go to
	http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~wittman/bart-scheduler
where I will hopefully have posted a database with the new schedules.

Please send any bug reports, comments and suggestions to
wittman@cs.berkeley.edu.

BART Scheduler was developed under Red Hat Linux using the free Palm
development tools.

BART Scheduler has been designed such a way as to be fairly transit
system neutral. As a result, it shouldn't be too difficult to port it
for use with other (similar) transit systems, and I strongly encourage
people to do so. If you are interested in doing so and will release
your modifications under the current license, or another that meets
the open source definition (see www.opensource.org), I would be happy
to help you with questions. See the file README.src in the source
distribution for more information.

Thanks to the Post-PC project at UC Berkeley!

FAQ:

Q1: When I tap the "Find Trains" button, I get the error "couldn't find
a line record (see README)" and I have to reset my Palm. How can I get
BART Scheduler to work?

A1: This problem seems to occur when using ZipIt on the Mac to unzip
the file. Try following these instructions, unzipping the file again,
and reinstalling on the Palm. Many thanks to Greg Fox <fox@zanshin.com>
for this information.

Folks who are having a similar problem can bring up the
"Internet" Control Panel, click on the "Advanced" dialog tab,
choose the "File Mapping" icon, and hit the "Change..." (or
"Add...") button for the "pdb" extension; that will raise a
sub-dialog that can map .pdb files to the "HotSync Manager"
app; clicking "Show Advanced Options" will expand that dialog
to reveal the "Default Format" controls -- where the "Binary
Data" radio button should be selected.

Q2: When I try to beam BART Scheduler to someone else, they receive the
application itself but not the database. How can I beam the database
as well?

A2: The best solution is to use an additional application that will
beam databases. I recommend Z'Catalog, which is free and is available
at http://www.eblong.com/zarf/zcatalog.html

Q3: Is there a version of BART Scheduler available for any other bay
area transit system?

A3: Unfortunately no, but Anand Rajaraman has written a similar
application for CalTrain. It is available at
http://www.wenet.net/~arajaram/pilot.html

Changes:

v1.3b2 - 3/12/00
   - added "Swap" button, removed swap menu item and invisible button
     behind From/To labels
   - added "Cancel" button to station selection form
   - added support for hardware up/down buttons in station selection
     screen
   - added help text for station selection screen

v1.3b1 - 1/12/00
   - removed "Home Station" preference; instead, the program remembers
the station and bicycle settings from the last time it was run
   - added ability to swap To/From stations; to do it, use the menu
item, "S" shortcut, or tap the area of the To/From labels on screen
   - changed station selection to use a separate window instead of a
     popup list
   - the station selection window allows you to jump to a station in the
list by entering the first few letters of its name
   - very minor year 200x fix

v1.21 - 9/15/99
   - fixed bug that caused a fatal exception on PalmOS 2

     to activate
   - added current time to the results form
   - added a "Now" button to the time select form
   - added schedule database release date to the "About BART Scheduler"
form; you can check your schedule database date against the
posted schedule database on the homepage to see if you need to
     update
   - fixed "chunk over-locked" fatal error
   - fixed bug where some trains that disallow bikes were still shown
when "only trains allowing bikes" was selected
   - changed Fremont-Richmond to Colma-Pittsburg/Bay Point (and vice
versa) transfer point from MacArthur to 12th St; this fixes a bug
where trips from south of Lake Merritt to east of Rockridge would
     take longer than necessary
   - modified make-pdb-file to create files that install correctly on
     (at least some) Macs
